Delaware State University occurs as historically black university in Dover, Delaware. It was founded inside 1891.

Delaware State University's athletic programs participate in NCAA's Division I (I-AA for football). A university's nickname is the Hornets.

A Delaware State men's five won a 2005 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship. A Hornets played in the 2005 NCAA tournament as a 16-seed, losing 57-46 in the opening spherical to One-seed Duke.
